CTR: Click-through rate
The share of people who see the ad and actually click. The fastest read on whether the hook, creative, and offer earn attention.
What it is
Click-through rate is clicks divided by impressions. It is a creative and targeting signal, not a revenue metric. A high CTR with a weak conversion rate usually means the ad over-promised. A low CTR with a healthy conversion rate usually means the creative is not earning the click it deserves.
Why it is worth tracking
CTR tells you if the first five words, the visual, and the audience match. Teams that only watch CPA miss this: they keep pouring budget into ads nobody wants to open, then blame the landing page. Operators use CTR with conversion rate so they rewrite the right surface.
How to read it
A single number is not a brief. These splits are what change the work.
Low CTR, conversion rate holds
The offer converts when people arrive. The ad is the leak. Rewrite hooks, headlines, and the first frame before you touch the landing page.
High CTR, conversion rate drops
The ad is attracting the wrong click, or promising something the page does not deliver. Tighten targeting and rewrite the ad to match the page, not the other way around first.
CTR falling while frequency rises
Creative fatigue. The same people have seen the same asset too often. Rotate new variants from the winning angle instead of raising budget.
What the Operator does
Diagnose, act, then draft. The stats pick the job. Brand voice stays locked.
Diagnose
The Operator pairs CTR with conversion rate, frequency, and spend so it does not treat a vanity spike as a win. It flags which ads, placements, and markets are earning clicks versus burning impressions.
Act
Pause or throttle ads with weak CTR at meaningful spend. Shift budget toward combinations that earn clicks without wrecking conversion rate. Raise frequency caps when the same creative is saturating a small APAC audience.
Draft
Draft new hooks, headlines, primary text, and first-frame video lines from the ads that still click. Generate placement-sized variants (feed, Stories, search, chat ads) in brand voice, then keep iterating in the same thread.
Example brief
“CTR on our Meta feed ads in Indonesia dropped from 1.4% to 0.6% over 10 days while frequency hit 4.2. Conversion rate on the LP is still 3.1%. Draft 12 new hooks and 8 primaries from the two ads that still click. Tone: warm, Bahasa-friendly English. No medical claims.”
Paste a brief like this into a Basis Operator. Connected account context and brand rules apply automatically.
